The area 

​Bythynnod Faengrach Cottages are located within the owners spacious grounds only 1 mile from the World famous Devil’s Bridge. In Devil’s Bridge you’ll find the wonderful Devil's Bridge waterfalls and the spectacular 3 bridges, each  one built on top of each other. The legend is that the devil built the first bridge and the walk around the waterfalls and bridges is a must do when visiting. You’ll also find the Vale of Rheidol Railway in Devil’s Bridge. The steam railway heads to the coastal town of Aberystwyth travelling through the Rheidol valley. You’ll also find the Hafod Arms Hotel, cafe, Sarah Bunton chocolate shop) and grocery shop (seasonal) in the village. Other nearby attractions include:

Aberystwyth 

The coastal town of Aberystwyth is only 10 miles from our cottages and provides all the amenities you require including shops, pubs, supermarkets, restaurants as well as a beautiful promenade. You’ll also find the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth University and a cliff railway here.

Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre

Only a 10 minute drive from our cottages. Here you’ll find some of the best mountain bike trails in Wales. You will also find a range of walking trails and you can also watch the red kites being fed followed by a cup of tea and cake in the cafe.

Hafod Estate

Approximately 5 miles from us this picturesque landscape has way marked walks to explore. A real hidden gem of this area. 

Elan Valley

15 miles away you'll find the spectacular Elan Valley with its dams and reservoirs, breathtaking scenery and wildlife. You can head for a walk, cycle, mountain bike, bird watch or head to the visitor centre for tea and cake.

Walking 

A number of walks start from the cottage and Edryd is a keen walker, walking maps with route descriptions are provided in the cottages and Edryd is on hand to point you in the right direction. There is a public footpath from the cottages that will take you to the railway line and the station of Rhiwfron - where you can catch the train and head into Devil’s Bridge or Aberystwyth.

Devil’s Bridge is also a dedicated ‘Walkers are Welcome’ area with a choice of walks of various lengths starting from the village or from nearby locations.

cycling 

Rheidol Cycle Trail – This 17 mile trail leads you from Devil’s Bridge, through the Rheidol Valley down to the harbour in Aberystwyth, mainly along quiet back roads and dedicated cycle routes.

Nant yr Arian Mountain Biking Centre - one of Wales’ dedicated Mountain Biking trail centres, with the Continental Tyres Syfydrin Trail, one of the most scenic wilderness trails in the UK. 

Other activities 

Fishing - Nant-y-Moch & Dinas reservoirs, near Ponterwyd are both stocked with varieties of trout. Permits for fishing can be bought from the Rheidol Filling Station in Ponterwyd. 

​Horse Riding - Rheidol Riding Centre Capel Bangor. 

​Bird watching - Red Kite Feeding Centre at Nant yr Arian. Cors Caron Nature Reserve between Tregaron and Pontrhydfendigaid.

Beaches - Popular seaside town of Aberystwyth. Ynys Las beach and sand dunes is also only a 15 mile drive from the cottages.
